CnCNet updates! Dedicated servers, RA2 support and more!
Greetings Command & Conquer Community! It has been a long time since there has been any announcement from CnCNet spread around the community. Our last announcement was CnCNet v2, but today we announce something much greater: CnCNet v3! (3.1a to be exact as of this writing)
A lot has happened since our last announcement. For instance CnCNet now uses dedicated servers instead of relying on peer to peer (P2P), this means that the old portforwarding requirement is gone, further advancing our goal of just install and play. P2P functionality is still there if you wish to use it. It is useful if ever our servers should go down or you have high latency to our servers (housed in the United States and the United Kingdom) and your opponent is close to you geographically. CnCNet also got a permanent home at www.cncnet.org!
Using dedicated servers has many advantages: No portforwarding, no router or firewall setup (unless your firewall is very restrictive), It just works™ even in restrictive networks such as schools. (remember you are there to study, not to play C&C sadly enough).
CnCNet now fully supports all classic C&C games, yes that means Command & Conquer (Covert Operations), Red Alert (Counterstrike, Aftermath), Tiberian Sun (Firestorm) and a newcomer Red Alert 2 (Yuri's Revenge).
[The Red Alert lobby is pretty active as illustrated below]

Check it out!Posted by: Dario[PCNC]
Tiberian Sun Rising is back with a small update to pass the time till the next, big reveal. This time, you can get a look at our new particles for the Banshee as well as a glimpse at an epic battle between GDI and Nod forces in a barren tiberium desert.
Followers of Kane, you have been authorized to review the latest combat data from strike group 501, operating in the western Australian outback (see dossier: Region\Aus\WAOB~). Reports show an alarming presence of GDI heavy ground forces, probably targeting our harvesting operations. In addition, enemy forces seem to have adapted to our new Banshee fighter craft. Caution is advised to reach a favorable outcome!
Study this data well, commanders. It might prove vital when your time comes. In the name of Kane!

Nod's Technology of Terror GDI Intelligence has learned of a new defensive measure being used by the Brotherhood of Nod. It seem's the Brotherhood has developed more mobile laser weapons then the notorious Obelisk of Light leading to these Laser Turret's which are a light weapon but in groups can be formidable defence. Particularly as when the Laser Turret's are not in use they fold up into an underground compartment hidden from view.
A Wolverine scout party essentially found itself ambushed by unknowingly walking right into an array of Nod Laser Turret's which appeared to pop up out of nowhere. Caution is advised to all GDI Commander's recommend dispatching some medium Titan class walkers with Wolverine scout party's as the main weakness of the Laser Turret is its range of attack our Titan's can attack these defence's outside their firing range however they will need to be detected first.
GDI Reaching Higher GDI force's are now putting into field testing the newest generation of Personnel-Jumpjet Technology, these highly mobile aerial combat squads are equipped with highly manuverable Jumpjet Pack, a powerful Vulcan Cannon and is also equipped with a Sensor Kit for detecting stealth or subterranean units. Further details on these "Jumpjet Troopers" has been classified.
End Transmission, Thank you for your continued support! We're now on Facebook throw a "Like" our way!Posted by: Assassin
Project Perfect Mod will become 10 years old on september 30th. Since the webmaster of the site is unable to pay a proper tribute to its 10th anniversary, you can help to make this date special for the C&C community. For this reason, PPM is celebrating its birthday with a special contest where you can grab $20, renegade mouse mats, soundtracks and more... by submitting any kind of material to the site: maps, mods, tools, graphics and even news posts. The submissions will be accepted while it is september somewhere in the world and they'll be reviewed, being able to grab some points, depending on the kind of submission, its quality and demand. The user who gets the best score, gets the prize. But do not expect it to be so easy, since the community there has already released mod updates such as Return of the Dawn 2.8.6 and Invasion Confirmed: PPM 10th Anniversary Release, tools like Open Source SHP Viewer, inumerous modding tutorials, graphics for every C&C game and much more. Make sure you are registered on PPM Forums, read the rules and good luck!Posted by: Banshee
CnCNet version 2 just reached open beta. CnCNet v2 is now open for everyone to test!
Main features of CnCNet v2 are: - Faster speeds - Command & Conquer support - Red Alert support - Tiberian Sun support - Better routing support - Linux compatibility
Users of the old CnCNet will have to disable their clients as the old CnCNet client are no longer in use and will not update to the latest version!
To play on CnCNet please read the setup guide, as CnCNet v2 is still in beta some problems may occur, you will have to update your files regularly.
What is CnCNet CnCNet is an open source unofficial (as in not supported by EA) service created by Command & Conquer fans. This service allows you to play Command & Conquer, Red Alert and Tiberian Sun online through the network functions of the games.
CnCNet allows you to play "network" games over the Internet. CnCNet uses peer to peer (p2p) technology to connect games on CnCNet together. For games to be smooth we recommend that you play with players on your own continent, but if you don't mind some lag a European player can play with a US player. But try to avoid extremes as a Canadian player playing with someone from New Zealand, because that will have extreme lag! So basically the closer the players are the better.
CnCWorld have conducted an interview with Derek328, the mod manager of C&C 2142 is a modification for Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars set in the Battlefield universe which throws the player forward to the year 2142 where a new Ice Age has humanity once again fighting for survival. The interview covers topics such as an introduction to the mod team, how the Battlefield units integrate with a C&C engine, and most importantly, a possible release date!
Quote
CD : Please explain to us virgins of the Battlefield series how this mod will play, are any C&C RTS mechanics involved? derek328 : BF2142 tells the story of Earth in the year 2142, when the dawn of a new Ice Age has thrown the world into a panic. The soil not covered by ice can only feed a fraction of the global population. The math of this war is simple and brutal: some will live, most will die. Thus, two global superpowers – the European Union and the newly-formed Pan Asian Coalition – set out in an epic battle against each other for survival....
